HIGH winds have forced a number of schools across Pembrokeshire to close this afternoon.

Parents have been told that Sir Thomas Picton and Tasker Milward in Haverfordwest will close.

A section of roof has been damaged at Sir Thomas Picton.

Pembrokeshire College has also said it will close early today.

The adverse weather conditions have hit throughout the afternoon.

Greenhill School in Tenby was the first to confirm it was closing with buses collecting children at 1pm today.

Portfield School in Haverfordwest closed at noon and Manorbier School in Manorbier is at 12.30pm Ysgol y Preseli in Crymych is closing at 12.45pm and Ysgol y Frenni also in Crymych is closing at 1pm.

A RED warning has now been issued for areas along the west coast of Wales from Pembrokeshire to Anglesey, reflecting potential for significant disruption with gusts of winds between 70 and 90 mph possible.

Within the area of rain edging across Wales there is scope for very intense rainfall at times which will increase the risk of flooding on the roads and from fast responding water courses.

There are reports of large waves at exposed coastal areas.

Pembrokeshire County Council’s Area Maintenance Crews cannot attend trees until wind drops to safe working levels so any trees that have fallen will not be attended to until then as spokesman said.

Power lines have fallen down West Street in Pembroke – emergency road closure has been requested as power lines are live. Mid and West Wales Fire Service and Western power are in attendance.

A road closure has been requested at Square and Compass filling station. The metal roof sheeting is blowing off and into the road.

A door has been blown off a service bus on an exposed road at Penycwm on the A487. No-one is injured and a relief bus is en-route.

A live electricity cable is down in the road at Llanrhian crossroads. Incident reported to Western Power.

The road is closed to high sided vehicles A487 at Newgale.
