A 40-mile police chase of a teenage driver which began in Saundersfoot has been referred to the Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC).

The 15-year-old stole a Fiat Punto car from the village and was pursued for 50 minutes before crashing the vehicle in Burry Port, Carmarthenshire.

As the Western Telegraph reported last week, the boy, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was given a two-year youth rehabilitation order by magistrates in Haverfordwest. He admitted offences including theft, dangerous driving and not having a licence or insurance.

Dyfed-Powys Police carried out its own review of the incident in January before referring the matter to the IPCC.

A force spokeswoman said: "We have conducted an internal review of the incident and have referred the matter to the Independent Police Complaints Commission.

"It would be inappropriate, therefore, to comment any further at this time."
