OAKWOOD Theme Park is to stage its very own Sport Relief Mile on Sunday, March 23.

The charity event, which hopes to attract hundreds of competitors, features a course which winds its way through the park’s famous rides.

There will be three different distances for people to enter: one mile, three miles and six miles, with all monies raised going towards Sport Relief.

Competitors will be able to walk, run or skip their way around the course as the race is also providing a special preview to the park which is set to open for the 2014 season next month.

Oakwood’s Dominic Jones said: “We’ve already got well over a hundred people taking part at various distances but we really want to get as close to our 500 people maximum as possible and we’re inviting anyone who’s thinking about taking part to sign up.

“We’ve got a team of people from the park, including myself, who will be led by our costume character Scorch the Dragon and we’re expecting it to be a really amazing fun day for everyone.

“As well as getting the chance to do some gentle exercise and raise money for an incredible cause, the event also allows people to get a sneak preview of Oakwood before we officially re-open to the public on April 11."

The event will be running from 9.30am to 3pm and there will be free parking as well as a variety of refreshments available on the day.

Anyone interested in entering should either visit www.sportrelief.com and search for the Oakwood Mile, or visit www.oakwoodthemepark.co.uk and follow the Sport Relief link.
