Council scraps 20 recycling banks

TWENTY recycling banks across the county will scrapped, following a rise in the number of people choosing to recycle at home.

Following the introduction of its kerbside glass collection service, and in light of its need to save £12.9 million in the next year, Pembrokeshire County Council has looked again at how many people use recycling sites.

The amount of glass collected at bottle banks at recycling points and civic amenity sites dropped by approximately 68 per cent in 2012/13.

A total of 2,346 tonnes was collected from kerbsides in that time, a figure which is expected to increase in the coming year.

The council has also estimated that the amount of recyclable material collected in orange bags is to rise this year.

As a result, the 20 units with the lowest usage will be removed.

The facilities are at the Butcher’s Arms, Tegryn; Boncath Inn; Redberth Village Green; Hibernia Pub, Angle; Skrinkle Estate, Manorbier; Highgate Inn and Speculation Inn, Hundleton; Taberna Inn, Herbrandston; Marble Hall, Milford; Ryelands Lane, Kilgetty; Angle Point; Hook Sports Club; Begelly play area; Johnston Garage; Maesllawddog Housing Estate, Cilgerran; and the old school, Pentlepoir, and include glass, paper and can recycling banks.

A spokesman for the county council said the authority was still “committed to providing community recycling facilities where they are justified, by the use of banks”.

Fully agree with Welshman, but have no problem with these facilities being cut if they are not used.

The Council should cut ALL waste and we know where the biggest WASTE is and who are the biggest Wasters in the Council!
