Dyfed-Powys Police are currently investigating an incident outside Cardigan Secondary school this morning (Monday) where a young girl was reported to be screaming in the back of a car.

Police say they received a report from a school pupil who has reported that between 9 and 10am they heard an altercation between the driver of a silver salon type vehicle, and a young girl who was in the back of the car, who was reported to be screaming.

The man is described as being mid 40’s to 50’s, greyish hair, wearing a silver top and was clean shaven. The witness described his hair as being similar to that of Phillip Scholfield.

The young girl is described as being between 8-12 years old with shoulder length dark brown hair, and is described as being fairly skinny.

The vehicle is described as a silver saloon type car, similar to a BMW/Laguna/Mondeo.

The vehicle is believed to have driven off toward the direction of Gwbert Road, turned right back toward the junction of North Road and Aberystwyth Road. It is not yet known which direction the car continued its journey.

Police want to appeal for anyone who saw a car of that description outside the school between 9am and 10:00am, or a car driving through Cardigan or the surrounding area with a child in the back seat.

A police spokesman said: "If a member of the public recognises themselves as being this person, and there is an innocent explanation please feel confident to come forward and let us know, as currently this is a large scale enquiry."

Since receiving the report officers have been conducting extensive enquiries and liaising closely with local schools with a view to ascertaining that all children are accounted for. This work remains ongoing. Officers have also been reviewing CCTV in the area and conducting local house to house enquires.

Anyone with information that they think may be relevant to this incident are asked to contact the police on 101.
