THERE are no immediate plans to re-open a once loved indoor Pembrokeshire attraction that has fallen into an alarming state of disrepair.

In its heyday Canaston Bowl was a thriving bowling alley and home to the popular Crystal Maze game.

A generation of Pembrokeshire people will remember the attraction as a venue for birthday parties and school trips.

But the building, which is owned by Oakwood Theme Park, has fallen into state of disrepair since closing at the end of 2011, with peeling paint work, overgrown bushes and a pot-holed car park.

Stephanie Dewick, who works in the local hospitality industry, said: “It needs tidying up. It's right next to Oakwood and doesn't give a very good impression. They should invest a bit of money into it and reopen the place. All it's doing now is rotting away, which is not a pleasant sight.”

Alison Belton, director of Outsource Me Limited, and the former chief executive of Pembrokeshire Tourism, said: “The site is ideally suited to commercial office space, especially for small businesses perhaps as a business hub or hot desking facility.

“I would hate to see this as a site for another multinational run of the mill pub/travel lodge facility. Pembrokeshire is all about offering great value but great quality supporting local producers.”

Oakwood Theme Park Director Dominic Jones said there were plans for the attraction further down the line: “Canaston Bowl is part of our five year plan which aims to get the theme park back to its former glory," he said.

“But it is at the end of the plan, as we’ve had to focus our priorities on the park.

“Since the plan launched we have seen the opening of Neverland, and we are looking forward to opening a new restaurant serving Pembrokeshire produce, a new soft play area and arcade.

“We are considering a couple of internal options for Canaston Bowl and we would welcome outside opportunities as well, so if someone wants to present a case to us, we’d be happy to listen.

“It’s a nice site and it’s in our best interest to have it back up and running.”
