A SCOUT leader has been honoured for helping victims of a horrific north Pembrokeshire road crash.

Yve O’Neill came to the aid of two people near Brynberian, Crymych on the evening of February 3 this year.

She had been on her way home from work when she came across the wreckages of two cars.

The 48-year-old put her scouting skills to use and administered first aid to a man who had suffered serious head injuries.

She also alerted the emergency services who released a young girl who had become trapped in one of the vehicles.

Yve, who is an assistant area commissioner for the Scouts, was recognised for her gallantry during a celebration of the patron saint of Scouting, St George in Aberporth last week.

She was awarded The Scout Association’s Medal for Meritorious Conduct by area commissioner Chris Hollis on behalf of the chief Scout Bear Grylls.

The medals citation read: “In recognition of her swift actions and her professional manner when she went to assist drivers of two cars involved in a road traffic accident and both had sustained serious injuries, she administered first aid and called the emergency services whilst remaining calm throughout”.

Chris said: “Being a scouter, Yve took control of a bad situation.

“This enabled the emergency services to concentrate on the trapped girl.

“I have been involved in scouting for 20 years in Oxfordshire and Ceredigion, and I have never seen one of these medals before, let alone presented one.”
