Two Pembrokeshire women are pulling on their walking boots this tomorrow (Sunday, May 11th) to raise funds for, and awareness of, ME.

At the start of ME awareness week 62-year-old Gwyneth Hopkins will set off on a seven day walk across Pembrokeshire to raise money for ME Research UK.

Gwyneth suffered with ME for five years; she credits complementary therapies for her recovery in 2003.

The St Ishmaels grandmother will set off on a 125 mile round trip from Haverfordwest.

Since 2006 Gwyneth has walked over 750 miles, carrying a pack on her back and camping on route, to raise money for charity and awareness of ME.

“When asked why I do it I say because I can and it's a joy to feel well and be out in nature again after spending years in bed,” she said.

“If I can help inspire ME sufferers at the same time, that's great.”

Also on Sunday Haverfordwest language teacher Sharon Price will set off on a five kilometre sponsored walk around Dinas Head.

Sharon has had ME since 1991. And two years ago was desperately ill.

“Since a change of medication I have gradually started to feel better” she said.

“At the moment I am in a good patch and find myself able to do things I haven't done for two decades. I am nervous but determined. I hope I can do it”

The funds Sharon raises from her walk will go to WAMES, a charity which supports those with ME and CFS and campaigns for better services for them.
