Dyfed-Powys Police have issued a warning of the danger of ‘legal highs’ following an incident at Pembroke School yesterday.

A Dyfed-Powys Police spokesman said: “Dyfed-Powys Police can confirm that a number of pupils were treated at Pembroke Comprehensive school yesterday following what is believed to have been a reaction to a new psychoactive substance.

“Although the majority were taken to Withybush hospital as a precaution, none were admitted and soon returned to their parents.

“Officers will be visiting the school today to provide advice, support and reassurance, and conduct further enquiries.”

Substance misuse and the associated dangers are addressed in the All Wales Schools Liaison Core Programme, and the subject is updated regularly in light of new emerging substances.

New psychoactive substances (so-called legal highs) frequently contain substances that are not legal and cannot be assumed safe police warn.

These substances have not been properly tested to see how toxic they are to humans so there is no way of telling how a psychoactive drug will affect you. Information on substance misuse for parents and pupils can be found at www.schoolbeat.org
