School children, church figures and city councillors are among the people in St Davids who are going to be visited by the Police and Crime Commissioner Christopher Salmon tomorrow (Friday, May 16).

Christopher Salmon will kick off the day with a meeting with David Haynes, the headteacher of Ysgol Dewi Sant, as well as the school’s governors and pupils.

This will be followed by a two hour public surgery at the school, where individuals and small groups can book a 20 minute slot to discuss policing issues between 11am and 1pm.

Bookings are being taken by phone on 01267 226440.

After lunch the commissioner will meet with residents and carers at Yr Hafan sheltered accommodation, followed by a visit to St David’s Cathedral to discuss the Diocese of St Davids quarterly newspaper Pobl Dewi, with David Hammond-Williams.

He will then head to City Hall to meet with members of St Davids City Council.

Mr Salmon said: “I want a greater understanding of the crime and policing needs of local people; Your Voice St Davids is about just that.

“It will be a people-focused day; I’m confident that local people will wish to air their views. As their voice in crime and policing I need to understand their thoughts.”

The commissioner oversees an annual Dyfed-Powys policing fund of around £100m. As the elected voice of the public, he makes the police answerable to the communities they serve.

He works in partnership across a range of agencies to ensure a unified approach to preventing and reducing crime.

In his first 18 months in office, his key achievements have included more police officers, improved access to the police, reduced policing costs, the launch of the Commissioner's Fund for community initiatives and a launch grant for a rural policing centre.
