Fishguard’s Transition Cafe, which saves around 100 kilos of food from landfill every week, celebrates its first birthday today (Friday, June 6th).

The birthday celebrations will be held in the cafe and a marquee in the Co-op car park. It will start at 2pm. From 3.30pm there will be pizza and fruit kebab making for children, as well as fun yoga.

An evening party will start at 6pm, featuring music,a local bar, food and a great raffle full of fantastic donated prizes.

Everyone is welcome to come along and be part of the day, but is asked not to park in the Co-op car park. For more information, or to help out, call Tracy on 01348 872019.

The cafe has two reasons to celebrate today, as it has recently secured £10,000 worth of funding at the Hay Festival’s Future Green Dragons event.

The Transition Cafe’s pitch won over the dragons, enterprise specialists from government, community and business, securing £10,000 of Welsh Government grant funding to scale up and deliver their work.

“This news will really make the cafe birthday party on the 6th June go with a bang,” said Chris Samra, Transition Bro Gwaun director. “We hope that everyone will come and celebrate with us.”
