Haverfordwest Town Council is appealing for locals to help them clean up the Bridge Meadow area – particularly around the football pitch – ahead of the international Women’s Football match on Saturday, June 14.

Kicking off at 3pm, the Welsh team – including local player Angharad James - will take on Turkey in the Fifa Women’s World Cup 2015 qualifier. Wales will be looking to build on their 4-0 victory over Montenegro, which took place in Bangor on May 8.

Last year, Conygar Bridge Meadow successfully hosted two matches in the group stage of the UEFA Women’s Under 19 Championship, including Wales v France on August 25.

Working in conjunction with environmental charity Keep Wales Tidy, the Council is hoping people will join in with its efforts to present to town in its best possible light to the visiting team and spectators.

The clean-up will start at 10am tomorrow Saturday (June 7). Volunteers are asked to meet near the children’s playground next to Morrisons car park.

“We are looking for volunteers. Please come along, all the equipment you need – gloves, bags and so on - will be provided,” said new Deputy Mayor, Councillor Sue Murray. “The match is going to be televised, so as a Town Council, we urge people to help us make Haverfordwest look really good.”
