QUESTIONS have been raised after a circus was allowed to take place next to a golf driving range at Pembrokeshire County Showground at the weekend.

Visitors to the Circus Mondao contacted the Western Telegraph on Monday to say a number of balls from the Withybush Golf Range landed in the car parking area following the conclusion on the show on Sunday.

No one was reportedly injured, and the Golf Range issued a statement via their Facebook page on Sunday evening apologising to visitors, and criticising the decision of the County Showground to place the circus venue next door to the range.

“We can only apologise to those at the circus today,” it read.

“It’s beyond our control where golf balls land once hit and we did close until after the circus had finished.

“The Showground should never have let the circus go there as we have been asking them to close that area off to the public to prevent any injury.”

Faye Thomas, who helps run the range with her partner Craig Beech, said they informed Showground staff of the potential problems prior to the event – and warnings about the dangers of allowing cars to park around the perimeter of the range were ignored.

“I really don’t know why they chose to book the event so close to where we are,” she said.

“What happened was not our fault or the fault of the circus organisers.”

The range is open between 9am and 9pm seven days a week, but Pembrokeshire County Showground manager Alex Bruce claimed he did not know the range was operating on Sunday.

“We have had good feedback from the circus organisers and I’m not aware of any complaints or incidents,” he said.

“I have had a conversation with people from the golf range but that is matter between landlord and tenant and not for the public domain – and I don’t wish to comment any further.”
