St Davids’ lifeboat and coastguard crews have had a busy weekend, launching three times on three consecutive days.
On Friday, June 13, the city’s inshore lifeboat launched to the aid of a 5.4metre rigid inflatable boat (RIB) which had suffered total engine failure. The RIB had two crew onboard and was stuck in Abermawr bay on the west side of Ramsey Island.
The lifeboat crew set up a tow line and towed the vessel to Porthclais harbour where they were met by a local coastguard team from St Davids.
The next day St Davids Tamar lifeboat rescued a second RIB, also with a broken engine. The Timba 11 and her crew of two was in Abereiddi bay. The lifeboat towed her to Porthgain harbour.
The lifeboat’s Y class inflatable was then deployed to tow the casualty into the harbour where they were again met by a coastguard team from St Davids.
Yesterday (Sunday) morning the Tamar launched again, this time to rescue a 24ft yacht which had suffered engine failure.
The Lulu, with two people onboard, was around four nautical miles north east of St Davids head.
The lifeboat towed the casualty to St Justinian bay.
