PEMBROKESHIRE adventurer Tori James completed her latest gruelling challenge last week - with the team getting a Royal seal of approval.

Tori, known for being the youngest British woman and first Welsh woman to climb Everest when she was 25, pushed herself to her limits yet again with a mammoth trek from Land’s End to John O’Groats – in a straight line.

This included a 35 hour non-stop paddle in sea kayaks from Land’s End to Pembrokeshire.

Tori, 32, and four other adventurers, make up the Beeline Britain team and have covered the length of the UK to raise money for wounded veteran charity Blesma (British Limbless Ex-Service Men’s Association), with a target of £20,000.

Joining Tori on the adventure was RAF helicopter crewman Ian O'Grady, outdoor instructor Adam Harmer, and former soldier and paralympian Nick Beighton.

The team were congratulated on their success by His Royal Highness Prince Harry.

Tori, from Clarbeston Road, arrived at John O’Groats on Friday (June 13) afternoon, carrying the same Welsh flag she took up Everest, and said she was delighted to have completed the challenge.

“We only had 50k to cycle this morning so it was less than three hours. Yesterday we completed the final sea kayak, there were five in total, which took just over 10 hours,” said Tori.

The team completed their challenge in 28 days – a trek which included sea kayaking, cycling, walking and mountain climbing – returning in plenty of time for Tori to be bridesmaid sister’s wedding on June 21.

“I’m so proud of the team. One of the most inspirational parts of the journey was seeing Nick Beighton scaling the second highest mountains Ben MacDui; it was one of the most incredible things I have seen.

“It’s been a real team effort and I’ve loved being part of a team. There have been fun times and some challenging times as well.

“The most challenging journey was the one that brought us to the coast of Pembrokeshire. It was 34 and a half hours from Land’s End, to keep going without sleep does strange things to the human body,” she added.

They received a congratulatory phonecall from Prince Harry on Friday.

His Royal Highness said, "You've done a sterling job. I am so glad you've enjoyed it and I am really sad I didn't get to join you. This was a seriously hard and arduous journey, in such a short space of time."

"You've started something that other people can really latch on to and we're going to make sure we do our best to support it. It' a huge feat, I am really proud of you all."

There were many magical moments on the journey said Tori, including phosphoresces lighting up the sea water and the sense of isolation when out a sea with no land in sight as well as taking to the Isle of man TT track on their bicycles on ‘Mad Sunday’.

“I have had an incredible adventure literally on my doorstep, there’s so much to explore in the UK,” added Tori.
