THE Deputy Mayor of Milford Haven is urging local people to roll up their sleeves and help give a local ‘eyesore’ a much-needed makeover.

The Water Gardens area, which neighbours the Rath toilets and paddling pool, is considered by many locals as an ‘eyesore’.

Acting on these concerns, deputy mayor Cllr Stephen Joseph is asking locals to get stuck in and help clear up the area, so it can be enjoyed by families, dog walkers and visitors.

His Keeping Gardens Beautiful (KGB) project will include weeding the area, replacing the wooden seating, and re-instating the pond – bringing water back to the Water Gardens for the first time in years.

“People have never felt ownership of the gardens, we want people to get involved and make it their own,” he said.

“I want everyone to get involved, children, parents and grandparents.”

And it’s not just gardening enthusiasts needed, anyone with carpentry or building experience is encouraged to join the KGB team.

Pembrokeshire County Council has agreed that if locals agree to provide 'the muscle' it will help support the project through materials and training.

A spokesman for Pembrokeshire County Council said: “The council has been in discussions with Councillor Joseph and have agreed that if he can establish a voluntary community group to look after the former water gardens, then the authority will look to support that group with technical advice and provide materials which the group can use.”

Anyone wanting to get involved, or to hear more about the project, should meet at the Water Gardens, on the Rath, at 4pm, on Saturday, July 12.
