AN award-winning brass band was invited to a special reception in Haverfordwest last week.

The Pembrokeshire Schools’ Brass Band became British youth champions earlier this year.

To mark their achievement, the young instrumentalists were invited to County Hall by Pembrokeshire County Council’s Chairman, Councillor Tom Richards.

Councillor Richards praised their feat, which was achieved just four years after the band’s formation.

“These youngsters illustrate the wealth of musical talent we have in our county,” he said. “We’re very proud of both them and their teachers.”

The 43-strong band, conducted by Matthew Jenkins, beat nine other bands to win the under 18-section of the national youth brass band championships of Great Britain held in Manchester in April.
