Teachers have given a big tick of approval to the Education Resource Pack launched by Pembroke Dock Sunderland Trust at its newly opened Heritage Centre.
Created by teachers who are members of the Trust’s Volunteer Team, the 72 page pack is aimed particularly at primary pupils but offers unique opportunities for secondary schools too.
It has two sections - one concentrates on the historical development of Pembroke Dock over its 200 years while the second focuses upon the history of the famous Sunderland flying boats and the key roles they played in World War II. Both topics reflect the national and international importance of Pembroke Dock and its military legacy.
The Heritage Centre at the Royal Dockyard Chapel - which was opened by The Queen in April - provides an excellent setting for school groups to visit and already bookings have been made since the pack was launched. It has displays and information on many chapters in the town’s remarkable story.
Heading the Sunderland Trust’s Education Team are retired teachers Sue Clarkson, Chris Howell and Gareth Mills who collectively have many years of experience in the profession, in both primary and secondary schools.
The new Education Pack costs £10 to schools and is available from the Pembroke Dock Heritage Centre in the Royal Dockyard. For further information contact 01646 684220 www.sunderlandtrust.com
