Milford firefighters put the spring back into the step of a spaniel on Friday, after the unlucky pup got his head stuck in banisters.
Ten week old Gunner found himself in a spot of bother on the stairs of his Milford Haven home at around 8am.
"I was in the dining room and I thought 'where's the puppy gone'," said owner Carolyn Mckinven.
"As I looked up I saw him stick his head through the banisters and his head got stuck in the gap. He was screaming and chocking.
"I got hold of him I was pushing him and shoving him but I couldn't get him out. I was going to get the saw but I was scared that if I left him he would choke to death. I've never been so frightened in my life.
"The only thing I could think of to do was ring the fire brigade. They pushed him forward and turned his head round. I've never been so pleased to see a fire man."
Milford Haven fire station crew manager, Chris Steele, said that he and a colleague responded to a 999 call from Mrs Mckinven at 8.15 this morning.
The puppy had been stuck there for about 30 minutes and his owner was quite distressed," he said.
"It took a little bit of working out how to get a round peg out of a square hole. We could see how he was stuck and lifted his ear and lifted him out. It just needed a fresh set of eyes."
