PEMBROKE RFC 25th anniversary summer carnival was the best ever, organisers have said.

About 2,000 people got involved in Saturday’s (July 5) festivities as carnival fever hit the town in spectacular fashion.

The carnival procession left the Commons Road at 1pm, with Fireman Sam, Peppa Pig and the Minions all starring in another colourful spectacle.

The Smurfs float – which included carnival organisers Alex Hey and Mark Davies - scooped the £500 cash prize donated by LKC Contract Services Ltd.

Entertainment back at the rugby club included The 3 Amigos, Pembroke Dock Young Firefighters, Vibe Dance Group, Pembrokeshire Falconry displays and live music from Dig Deep.

There was also a mini quad bike rally, grand raffle, tug of war, rodeo bull, giant superslide, vintage tractor run, dunking stool, pram push, classic car club, fairground as well as stalls, face painting, marching bands, fancy dress and five-a-side football.

Carnival coordinator David Thompson said: “It was absolutely great, the best carnival we’ve ever had.

“There was a fun atmosphere and everybody was very happy. It was very successful and good weather always helps of course.”

Pembroke RFC made a record profit of £3,500 for the junior section of the club and £410 was raised £410 for the CRY (Cardiac Risk in the Young) charity in memory of Dean Mason who died suddenly in June 2010 at the age of just 26.

David added: “Special thanks to the ladies’ committee headed by Margaret Powell who were, as usual, outstanding in their help. It’s going to be even bigger and better again next year.”
