AFTER a break of seven years, the people of Neyland took to the streets on Saturday to prove their carnival spirit is still alive and kicking.

Around 1,000 people took part in the parade and after-party at Neyland Athletic Club, with the wet weather failing to put a dampener on the fun.

Inspired by everything from the World Cup in Brazil to classic Disney films, and pumping classic pop tunes, the eye-catching floats drew everyone out of their homes to take a closer look.

Back at the Club, judges Mayor Cllr Simon Hancok, deputy mayor Margaret Brace, and north Pembrokeshire RAOB Deputy Provincial Grand Primo Chris Raine had the tricky task of picking the winners.

And the party continued into the evening, with dance group VIBE, jazz band Pig Street Trotters, rockers The Review and a disco keeping carnival-goers entertained.

Carnival committee chairman Malcolm Hawkins said he was bowled over by everyone’s enthusiasm.

“I think the success of the carnival was proven by the amount of people who turned up, it was a brilliant effort by the people of Neyland,” he said.

“Everyone gave so generously and I have heard nothing but compliments since.”

He praised the event’s sponsors, the police for their support, and RAOB club members – without whom, he said, the carnival would not have happened.
