AN application seeking full planning permission to build an £80 million biomass plant in Trecwn has been submitted to Pembrokeshire County Council.

Local residents and councillors have already attended exhibitions run by Renewable Developments Wales to discuss the proposed development at the former Royal Navy Armaments Depot.

It comprises of a wood-fuelled power station to generate energy from biomass, a fuel storage facility, fuel reception buildings (for road and rail deliveries), the main combustion plant and associated infrastructure.

The plans also include the demolition of some of the existing onsite buildings.

The plant would produce about 25MW of renewable electricity for the National Grid. This would run alongside a 20MW diesel-fired peaking plant on a different part of the Valley site, which has already been granted planning permission.

Plans are for the facility to be operational 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

If permission is granted around 50 full time jobs would be created, plus another 150 construction jobs over a two year period.

You can comment on the application on the planning section of the county council’s website. The application reference is 14/0300/PA.
