THE annual exhibition of GCSE and A level students at Tasker Milward School was held in-house for the first time recently but as always showcased an impressive range of work by talented young artists.
The school’s summer art exhibition has been held in Haverfordwest library for the last 19 years but following its move to the Community Education Centre it was not possible to hold the event there.
The impressive exhibition was opened by Pembrokeshire artist Andrea Kelland, who gave an encouraging and inspiring speech to pupils urging them to continue their love and interest for the subject.
Andrea had an opportunity to view the work before the opening and described the artwork as ‘stunning’; she was very interested in meeting pupils and discussed their inspiration for individual themes and projects studied.
Andrea was particularly keen to talk to Anna Smallman, a Year 13 pupil who is representing the school in an international school of Art in New York this summer.
A new addition to the exhibition this year was the inclusion of a staff section.
Fourteen members of staff displayed their artistic flair through painting, drawing, photography, textiles and model making.
Other members of staff inspired by their colleagues have already thought about working on entries for next year.
The tone for the private view was set by the addition of music students providing solos and instrumental sets alfresco.
A-Level student Mina Griffiths photographed the exhibition and submitted her pictures to the Western Telegraph.
“I walked around the hall, and I was so proud of the teachers’ and pupils’ work,” said Mina. “The exhibition gave people a chance to see what we can do, and showed that the teachers at Tasker Milward go the extra mile to help their students achieve.”
