BURGLARS "trashed" a ground floor flat when they left the bath taps running, a judge has heard.

One of them was Richard Russell, aged 29, who appeared before Judge Paul Thomas at Swansea crown court for sentencing.

Russell, of Benton House, Goat Street, Haverfordwest, admitted burgling the home of Saffron Brenda Kopjas in Fleming Crescent.

Ieaun Rees, prosecuting, said Miss Kopjas was away when Russell and another man broke in.

The flat was ransacked and the burglars put her clothing into a bath, turned on the taps and left.

Miss Kopjas returned to find the flat flooded.

Russell stole a ring valued at £60 which he sold for £7.69.

Judge Thomas said he was not prepared to sentence Russell until he had been shown photographs of the damage caused and had an estimate of how much repairs cost. He also wanted a victim impact statement from Miss Kopjas as to the effect the burglary had had on her.

Russell was further remanded in custody and will be sentenced at a later date.
