Members of trades unions and the community are set to protest outside County Hall today (Friday) over the “catalogue of failures and concerns” under the leadership of Bryn Parry-Jones.

Members of UNISON, Unite and the GMB will protest outside the council headquarters at 12.30.

The protest follows revelations that a new investigation will be carried out by Gloucestershire police into further evidence received in relation to the controversial 'unlawful' pension payments made to Mr Parry-Jones and another senior council officer.

Union members are unhappy that Mr Parry-Jones remains in post while the allegations are investigated.

More than 500 union members have also responded to a ballot on a vote of no confidence in the chief executive of Pembrokeshire County Council called by the three unions.

Vic Dennis, UNISON Branch Secretary, said the response to the ballot had been “overwhelming”.

“We have never had such an immediate and overpowering response to a ballot on any other issue,” he added.

Mr Dennis said that the action was planned for lunchtime so that members could register their protest without pressure.

He added that members of the public were also welcome to join in the protest to demonstrate strength of feeling.

A spokesman for Pembrokeshire County Council said they had no comment to make on the unions' plans.
