Narberth Children’s Festival springs into action this weekend.

This free event for under-16s will be looking to build on the success of last year’s pilot event, which represented a return of the festival after an absence of nearly 20 years.

This year’s festival will be on Saturday August 16 and is being held in conjunction with Narberth District Community and Sports Association at the town’s Bloomfield House Community Centre.

“We are very excited to be at Blomfield, as it is a key community venue and the festival is an iconic community event, “ said festival secretary Alison Taylor-Jones. “We are also planning to use this year’s festival as a fundraiser for future events, so that we can continue its development over the coming years."

Activities being provided will include dance, kung fu, cheerleading, basketball, fun football and zumba, while an arts and crafts room will offer pottery painting, spinning, an art competition and t-shirt decorating, with forest skills and bushcraft in the grounds.

Younger children will have their own dedicated room and will be able to take part in activities such as soft play and yoga.

Also involved will be the local Cylch Meithrin, singing company Little Melodies and the Nant y Cwm Steiner School from Llanycefn, while practitioners from the Narberth Natural Health Centre will be offering therapies; The fun starts at 10am and will be rounded off in style at 4pm with Narberth Youth Theatre performing three short pieces from their summer school project.

Added Alison: “We are always on the look-out for new volunteers, and also local businesses that may be able to sponsor aspects of the festival."
