August bee and bug hunts will take place at Colby Woodland Garden this week.

Buzzing about Colby will focus on searching for bumblebees and other insects, such as ladybirds and shield bugs.

Several of the activities will be delivered by Clare Flynn and Kiri Howell.

Clare is currently undertaking bee transect studies in Colby’s meadow. This research work into these charming creatures is important because bumblebees do an essential job which many people take for granted.

There will also be the chance to create some Wild Art with local artist Tina Cunningham of Sculpture by the Sea. Wild Art is one of the National Trust’s ‘50 things to do before you’re 11 ¾’ which Colby is offering to visitors this summer, along with activities including pond dipping, den building and tree climbing.

Buzzing About Colby is today (Thursday) and on August 27 and 28.

To reserve a place on Buzzing about Colby, call 01834 811885 or just turn up on the day.
