A WELSH wizard was called in to cast his spell over a special learning project in Pembroke Dock this summer.

Organised by Pembrokeshire Libraries and Archives and Pembroke Dock Community School, the week-long project was held at the town’s library.

It involved 10 year five pupils taking part in fun activities aimed at inspiring their creativity and love of learning – as well as encouraging their interest in reading for pleasure.

The project workshops were based around the legendary Gerald of Windsor, The Wizard of Pembroke.

Every day the group worked on a different creative element of his story including storytelling, drama, 3D model-making, map making and seals.

The week ended on a high note with a visit to Pembroke Castle to hear all about Gerald and the history of the castle in medieval times.

“I’ve had a brilliant time I wish we could carry on,” said 10- year old Elinor afterwards while James, 10, asked if he could come back and do it again.

“The week was a great success and everyone had a lot of fun,” said Pam Anthony.

“It was a wonderful opportunity for the children to develop their creativity and interest in learning at their local library.

“We now plan to build on this success for next year.”

The children’s project work is on display at the library.
