A man who became the mayor of Narberth five times appeared in court this afternoon (Friday) accused of stealing money from the town’s football club.
Colin David Williams, aged 72, of Coxhill, denied stealing an unspecified amount of money from Narberth Football Club between October 3, 2011, and November 1, 2012.
His daughter, Wendy Williams, aged 49, of the same address, denied an identical charge.
Frank Phillips, prosecuting, said in due course the single charge would be replaced by several charges reflecting “the six or so occasions when money was stolen by them jointly.”
Those charges, he added, would detail the amounts the prosecution allege to have been taken.
Defence barristers representing the pair said whatever charges were brought against them would be denied as there was no question of them having stolen any money at all.
The judge, Mr Recorder Richard Williams, said the alleged offending revolved around the sale of lottery style tickets aimed at raising money for the football club.
The pair were granted bail and told a two day trial would begin on February 18 next year.
