A COUPLE from Haverfordwest are still in love and laughing after 60 years of marriage.

Reg and Wendy Holland celebrate their diamond wedding anniversary on October 2 and are looking forward to a family get together in Clayton, West Yorkshire, where they both grew up.

They met at a dance in the village hall when Reg was 21 and Wendy 17.

Reg said: “I’m a few years older than Wendy, so going back to that time I looked upon Wendy as being a schoolgirl.”

The couple married in 1954 and both worked at woollen mills before relocating to Pembrokeshire, where Reg managed the Haverfordwest office of an insurance firm.

In later life they bought the shop and post office at Simpson Cross and were friendly faces behind the counter from 1981 to 1994. And despite retiring, they continued to travel the country doing relief post office work before finally settling down in Jury Lane, Haverfordwest.

Reg and Wendy have two daughters, Susan and Sandra, as well as seven grandsons and three great-grandsons.

Life has not always been easy for the couple, with Reg suffering three heart attacks and a stroke, but one thing is for sure they have never stopped laughing and enjoying each other’s sense of humour.

Reg described Wendy as a thoughtful and considerate lady, while Wendy said Reg was very kind.

“We get on well because everything we do is a natural partnership, whether it be working together or living together,” said Reg.

“We share everything and we look after each other.”

Wendy added: “Of course we have arguments, some good ones, but it wouldn’t be normal if we didn’t.”

To mark their milestone anniversary Reg and Wendy be travelling back to the village hall in Clayton to celebrate with family and friends.

Reg said: “We have hired a coach and we’re taking this side of the family to meet the other side of the family in Yorkshire.

“We’ve got relatives coming as far as America and New Zealand to celebrate with us.”
