Everything in the garden is looking lovely for a Pembrokeshire village and a seafront hotel after they won Wales in Bloom titles once again this year.

For the tenth year, Wolfscastle scooped the Small Village trophy, being awarded a Silver Gilt, while Tenby’s Giltar Hotel secured its fourth consecutive win in the hotel and pub category.

Said the Rev Geoffrey Eynon, who is co-ordinator of Wolfscastle Bloom Committee.

“I’m so proud of the fact that we have won once again - for the tenth time. It is obvious that Wolfscastle is an excellent village to live in, where the residents take pride in their community.”

The contest - whose results were announced on Thursday - proved to be a blooming disappointment for Tenby, which was seeking to claim its 30th Wales in Bloom victory.

The resort was given a Silver Gilt in the Small Country Town category, but was pipped at the post by the competition ceremony hosts Usk. Said Tenby’s mayor, Councillor Sue Lane, who is also chairman of Tenby in Bloom: “Everyone did their very best this year, and I don’t think Tenby could have a better display. We are very grateful to all those people and organisations who share our pride in Tenby, and hopefully it will be good news for us when the Britain in Bloom results are announced in October.”

Saundersfoot was in third place in the small country town section with a Silver Gilt, while Amroth Bay Holidays secured a second in the small caravan and holiday home sites class.

Wolfscastle now has the honour of hosting both the launch of the 2015 Wales in Bloom competition next spring, as well as the awards ceremony in September.

Said the Rev Eynon: “This is going to be a huge undertaking for the village, but with the support of the community and sponsorship from outside bodies, then this can be achieved.”
