FIRE crews are currently attending an incident at Meadow Park Day Centre in Prendergast, Haverfordwest.

The Western Telegraph understands that crews from Haverfordwest have a small fire in the roof space under control.

The Day Centre has been evacuated and Prendergast School, which neighbours the centre, has also been evacuated as a precaution.

A Pembrokeshire County Council spokesman, said: "The alert is believed to have been caused by an electrical fault in the loft space of the Meadow Park day centre in the Prendergast area of the town

"The centre’s 15 customers were evacuated safely and no casualties have been reported.

"Also evacuated as a precaution were the 465 pupils of the adjoining Prendergast Community School.

"They have been transferred to the nearby Sir Thomas Picton Secondary School where they will continue rehearsals for their harvest festival.

"The Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service are currently at the scene and have the situation under control.

"The customers at the Pembrokeshire County Council-run day centre are being transported home with a packed lunch.

"School pupils are to be collected at the usual time at Prendergast."

UPDATE 2.40pm:

The headteacher of Prendergast Community School says the children have enjoyed a good afternoon practising their harvest festival songs at Sir Thomas Picton School, having earlier been evacuated following a fire alert.

Debbie Davies said the pupils will be accompanied back to Prendergast School shortly, where they can be collected by their parents at the usual time.

The school has sent a group text to parents confirming the collection arrangements. 

“The building is safe, but pupils will not be re-entering the school building at Prendergast,” said Mrs Davies.

“They will be accompanied by senior staff and dismissed from the school gates.”

UPDATE 4.25pm:

Prendergast Community Primary School in Haverfordwest will be open as normal tomorrow, Friday, 26th September, following the fire alert earlier today.
