A SERIES of sponsored dog walks are being held this month to raise money for a community interest company which brings together the needs of people with the needs of dogs.

Supporting People and Pets Through Opportunity and Training (SPPOT) provides accredited training opportunities and clear pathways to employment for people who are furthest from the job market.

It has a base at Simpson Cross Community Centre.

The sponsored dog walks are being held at three locations across Pembrokeshire on Saturday, October 18, and they will help raise money to train SPPOT’s future volunteer dog walkers, dog day carers, home boarders and dog sitters.

The first walk will take place at Milford Marina from 10am to 11.30am, the second from Johnston to Haverfordwest from 12pm to 2pm and the third at Marine Walk, Goodwick from 3pm to 4pm.

Individuals, groups and sociable dogs are welcome to attend one or all of the walks. All of the routes are wheelchair and buggy friendly.

Sponsor forms can be downloaded from the events section of www.sppot.org.uk

Donations can also be made online.

Online manager Susan Scarr said: “SPPOT has been awarded the Caring Communities Grant via PAVS Volunteering Pembrokeshire to fund some of the training and we are fundraising to match fund the grant money so we can train even more people with the aim of helping elderly people keep their dogs when they are struggling to walk them themselves.”
