Narberth Food Festival was a sizzling success at the weekend, as thousands of people turned out in the sunshine to enjoy the menu of food and fun.

Nearly 60 stalls, live music, Food Theatre performances by top chefs, activities for children and glorious weather combined to serve up a two-day feast for foodies and families.

“It’s a real celebration of food and the community,” said festival chairman Huw Jones. “One stallholder said ’it’s like being at a Mardi Gras’ and that really sums up the relaxed and happy atmosphere of Narberth Food Festival.”

Stallholders from Pembrokeshire and beyond were kept busy replenishing supplies - and in some cases on Saturday, selling out until the following day.

“It’s been an amazing show and it was a record day on Saturday,” said Narberth butcher Andrew Rees, who always creates a special sausage for the festival.

This year’s spiced lamb Merlin banger went down a treat with the public, with 1,000 gobbled up in free samples and a further 2,000 sold.

Festival patrons Angela Gray and Elisabeth Luard were amongst chefs who attracted large audiences in the Food Theatre, and Angela said: “I’m back - and loving it! The festival is full of great food producers and lovely people - it’s like coming home to your family.”

Will Holland from Saundersfoot’s new award-winning Coast; Duncan Barham, Stephen Terry, Lisa Fearn, Ludovic Dieumegard also cooked up a storm, with every demonstration and Talk and Taste sessions being British Sign Language interpreted.

BSL interpreter Tony Evans, originally from Llangwm, praised the festival’s inclusive policy for the hearing-impaired, which extends to welcoming a group of deaf children to the event’s Education Day on the Friday.

The Talks and Taste tent, where traders shared their products, proved popular once again, with standing room only for seafood chowder and ship’s biscuits being offered by Jonathan Roberts of the award-winning Pembrokeshire Beach Food Co.

The top street food stall has been on a grand festival tour this year, including Glastonbury and Henley Regatta.

But as its ‘events mermaid’. Amy Gwyther, said; “It’s so nice to end the season with a really lovely local event like this’
