PEMBROKESHIRE'S X Factor hopeful Jay James Picton is the bookies' favourite to win the crown in the massive tv talent show.

During a dramatic weekend of sing-offs between contestants chosen to go through to the show's Boot Camp, the 30-year-old from Saundersfoot found himself in judge Simon Cowell's top six.

The former Royal Navy physical training instructor is now in Los Angeles for the 'judges houses' round of the contest, from where music mogul Cowell - who is mentoring the 'over 25s' category, will choose his final three to take part in the live shows.

James - who added Jay as his stage name - is now getting closer and closer to his second chance at stardom.

He previously had a recording contract and was the support artiste on tours by both Jessie J and former X Factor finalist Rebecca Ferguson before asking to be released from his contract.

Online betting sites are currently putting the Pembrokeshire singer at the top of their X Factor winner's list.

Once again, James delivered a heartfelt and stunning performance, choosing to sing Snow Patrol's Run.

Judge Mel B told him: "You sing with such passion," while his mentor-to-be, Simon Cowell added: "From the very first time you and I met, I really felt that you had the potential to be special."

The judges houses rounds will get underway in this weekend's X Factor coverage on ITV.
