POLICE have confirmed they are investigating an incident during a Pembrokeshire football match on Saturday that left a player with severe facial injuries.
Merlins Bridge striker Scott Crawford needed surgery to multiple cheekbone fractures after allegedly being punched by a Hakin United player during their Senior Cup match.
Referee Kevin Bowen called a halt to the match after just 23 minutes and told the Western Telegraph he feared for players’ safety.
Today (Tuesday) a Dyfed-Powys Police spokeswoman said: “Police in Pembrokeshire are investigating an incident that occurred at approximately 2.30pm on Saturday October 11, at Hakin Football Club, Picton Road, Milford Haven.
“ A football match was taking place, and a 25 year old man who was playing in the match sustained facial injuries when another player hit him.
“The injured man was taken to Morriston hospital for treatment.
"Anyone who witnessed the incident is asked to contact police by calling 101.”
