A FUNDRAISING campaign has been launched to help bring a sick Pembrokeshire man home from Thailand.

Nathan Perrin, who lived in Narberth and is originally from Blaenwaun, has been travelling the country for around 10 weeks having the time of his life. Friends and family grew worried when the 21 year-old fell out of contact, and soon tracked him down to a public hospital in Phuket.

Nathan’s best friend David Burger said: “Out of nowhere Nathan started having health problems.

"We are not sure what caused this as I had face-timed him for two hours the day before and everything seemed completely normal.”

Nathan has since been moved to a specialist hospital a few hours from Phuket and is said to be making good progress. The only problem is it does not look like his holiday insurance will cover the huge costs of his medical treatment.

David and a group of Nathan’s friends have set themselves the task of raising enough money to ‘Get Nathan Home’.

David said: “We have raised nearly £1,600 off the donations page alone and are putting together a host of fundraising activities to help pay for the hospital fees and for him to fly back to the UK.”

Daniel Owen, a former work colleague of Nathan’s, will be doing a 50 mile sponsored walk around Pembrokeshire on Wednesday, October 15 and is hoping to raise £500.

An event is also being held in Laugharne Memorial Hall on Saturday, October 25, starting at 7pm. Tickets cost £5 and the evening features five local bands which have all agreed to play free of charge.

The Peppercorn Restaurant, a former employer of Nathan, has agreed to run the bar and serve food at no cost, with all proceeds donated to Nathan’s cause. There will also be a raffle featuring prizes from local businesses such as Gravells of Narberth.

The group is hoping to raise at least £2,000 at this event, bringing the total raised to more than £4,000, which will cover the hospital fees up until the end of this week.

David said: “I’d like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who has donated so generously and everyone else who has helped spread the word and volunteered to help with forthcoming events. Nathan really does have a great group of friends.

“I know his family who have been out in Thailand for the last two weeks are so grateful for everyone’s generosity.”
