Pembrokeshire County Councillors are expected to go into a private session this afternoon to discuss a potential pay-off for the chief executive Bryn Parry-Jones.
The item is part of the agenda for the full meeting of Pembrokeshire County Council with a recommendation that the issue be discussed in private.
The amount in question is likely to run into several hundred thousand pounds.
Cllr Paul Miller, leader of the Labour group on the council, said: "Unfortunately, I'm not able to tell you how much they propose to pay him – the council have effectively gagged me – but I’m going to do everything I can to force them to make that information public for the people of Pembrokeshire.
"There should be no hiding place for those who want to agree this deal in private. All the money that might be offered to Bryn is public money and we have a right to know how the councils ruling elite are spending it.
"I'll be fighting all the way to ensure it is the views of the real pembrokeshire people that carry the day."
Mr Parry-Jones is currently working from home following a series of controversies at County Hall.
This week, police discontinued an investigation into the way pension payments for the chief executive were arranged.
