A Welsh author and historian who has just written a book about Jasper Tudor, the Earl of Pembroke, is to give a local talk on the important historical figure this evening (Thursday).

Terry Breverton has carried out extensive research in Wales and France on Jasper Tudor - the uncle of Henry VII, who defeated Richard III at the Battle of Bosworth.

Mr Breverton’s book, Jasper Tudor: Dynasty Maker was published in August, and he is giving his first talk on the subject at Penally Village Hall at 7.30pm today.

He will be the guest of Penally History Group, where member Marcia Sivell said: “Henry’s success in battle was surprising because not only was his army grossly undersized against Richard’s, but also because most people didn’t know who he was. He seemed to suddenly appear from the west of Wales.

“But this Tudor victory had been long in the planning, and the man behind it was Henry’s uncle, Jasper, the Earl of Pembroke.

“Beyond that title, Jasper has always been a rather shadowy figure, but Terry Breverton’s research has shed new light upon him.”

Entry to the talk is free and everyone is welcome to attend. For more information ring Marcia Sivell on 01834 842878.
