DOGS and owners from across Pembrokeshire united on Saturday (October 18) for a day of sponsored walkies.

A series of walks were held at Milford Marina, from Johnston to Haverfordwest, and Marine Walk, Goodwick to raise money for Supporting People and Pets Through Opportunity and Training (SPPOT).

The community interest company is a unique organisation in the UK providing accredited training opportunities and paid employment for people who are furthest from the job market, in the care and training of dogs.

The sponsored walks aimed to raise money to train SPPOT’s future volunteer dog walkers, dog day carers, home boarders and dog sitters.

In total 40 people and 18 dogs took part on Saturday, raising just over £800.

Kerri Bee, SPPOT managing director, said: “We are really hopeful of reaching £1,000 when all the sponsor money is in.

“Thank you so much to everyone who took part on the day and everyone who has raised so much money before, during and after.

“We have a good way to go to completely fund the training of 12 new volunteer dog walkers, boarders and day carers, but this first event has got us off to a flying start.”

Kerri added: “A huge thanks go to the Foam Cafe in Milford for the lovely service, to Mario at Vincent Davies for a great lunchtime spread and of course Ocean Lab cafe for their support.

“A special mention must go to Peter from Pembrokeshire Voluntary Transport for driving the team all day long and being so helpful and supportive of the project.”
