Plaid Cymru have chosen their local candidates to stand for the Carmarthen West and South Pembrokeshire seats at UK Parliament and Welsh Assembly level.

Cllr Elwyn Williams will contest the Parliamentary seat in 2015 and former AM Nerys Evans the Assembly election in 2016.

Insurance Broker Owner Elwyn Williams has run the family business for the past 30 years. He’s also a part-time farmer, former YFC leader and a chapel deacon.

As a Carmarthenshire county councillor, he sits on the audit Committee - amongst others. He’s also a member of the Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Authority. Elwyn Williams fought Gower for Plaid Cymru in the past, raising Plaid’s vote by nearly 50%.

“Through my business, public service and social life, I have connections in town and country right across West Carmarthen and South Pembrokeshire,” said Elwyn Williams. “From the oil refineries on the Haven, across the tourist towns on the coast, to the larger towns and villages and farms, people are concerned about their future. Whoever rules in Westminster, it’s essential that we have a strong voice to fight our corner in these difficult economic times."

Nerys Evans is a highly-respected politician. During her term as regional Plaid AM for Mid and West Wales (2007-11) she was awarded 'Campaigner of the Year' by ITV.

Born and bred in the village of Llangain, where her family work as Funeral Directors.

She runs her own Public Affairs Consultancy business and is Director at Portal Educational Training.

"It was an honour to represent the people of Carmarthenshire and Pembrokeshire during the last Assembly term and I’m extremely pleased to have been chosen as a candidate again. I very much look forward to working with Plaid Cymru members in the constituency to secure success in 2016,” she said.
