Newport Memorial Hall will host a benefit concert for Syrian refugees this evening (Saturday, November 1).

A full line up is in store with The Wren Song Book, Newport Choir, Singing Village from St Dogmaels and Pint Size Plays. Rounding off the evening will be tunes from DJ Eugene. Delicious Middle Eastern food will be served at 6pm, with the concert beginning at 7.30pm.

Organiser Jess Hope said: “As a member of my local Amnesty group, I was involved in an interactive presentation given during refugee week. We organised a live Skype question and answer session, where the public were invited to come and ask questions directly to my Syrian daughter-in-law who had experiences of working in the refugee camps in Lebanon.

“During this evening we became aware of the immense suffering and hardship endured by many Syrian's in their prolonged exile. We were also given hope when my daughter-in-law spoke of the good work of a small charity called 'Syrian Eyes', a non-political group of young Syrians dedicated to the delivery of humanitarian aid to this community.

“After the presentation with Amnesty I felt inspired to try and do something more constructive to help in the humanitarian efforts for Syrians. All proceeds from this event will go to help Syrian Eyes with their work.”

Tickets cost £8 and £7 for a meal with cakes and drink sold separately. For more information or to book a meal, call Jess on 01239 820183.
