A FUNDRAISING gig takes place in the Cellar Bar, Cardigan on Friday, November 7.

Organised by local teenager Ellie Fountain, the event aims to raise money for a volunteering trip she plans to take to Bali next year.

Ellie will be working in schools to provide healthcare education, including basics we take for granted such as washing our hands and brushing our teeth.

She said: “The idea behind providing healthcare education is to encourage young people to implement these basic hygiene practices in an attempt to prevent the spread of potentially deadly diseases.

“Bali is a small island, it is not rich. Treatment for illnesses is expensive, so a focus on disease prevention would mean less people falling ill and, therefore, less people in need of treatment.”

Ellie added: “It's a really great programme that I feel really passionately about. I could have just donated £5 to help send other people over there to help, but I would much rather go there myself so I know exactly what is being done to help people, rather than trusting people I don't even know to do good with the money I've donated.”

Ellie is looking to collect money to help pay for her flights and promises to keep donators updated on the work she carries out in Bali.

The gig at the Cellar Bar will feature music from local bands and musicians including The Blitz, Loose Change, Grace Newman and George Higgins. The music begins at 7.30pm and tickets cost £3 on the door.
