THE Mayor of Haverfordwest is appealing for people of all ages to show their support for local troops by attending a military parade in the town on November 18.

245 Signal Squadron, part of the 14 Signal Regiment (EW), was the last troop from Brawdy to be deployed to Afghanistan, back in March this year.

Following the closure of Camp Bastion, the last UK base in Afghanistan, all members of the squadron have returned home safely.

Lead by a military band from the Air Training Corps, the squadron will leave the Old Library on Dew Street at 2pm and march down High Street to Castle Square, where they will be met by their families and Mayor Councillor Roy Thomas and the Lord Lieutenant of Pembrokeshire will present them with their Operational Service Medals.

“We’d like as many school children and local people as possible to come along on the day and show their support for our local troops,” said Cllr Thomas.

“I happened to do the very first medal presentation when local troops came back from Afghanistan, and now I’m doing the last one. It’s the final pull out. It’s very good to know our local regiment has returned home unscathed.”

Haverfordwest Town Council is meeting the cost for closing the road, so the parade can go ahead safely.
