Works on a major road safety scheme between Pembroke and Pembroke Dock are due to start today.

Pembrokeshire County Council’s contractors are scheduled to start work at the Ferry Lane/Pembroke Road and Bush Hill/Buttermilk Lane staggered junction today (Monday, November 10).

The aim is to improve safety and pedestrian facilities by installing traffic signals on all four arms of the junction.

Traffic delays during the works are expected as four–way temporary lights, set up from November 10, are required for the works.

Ground works and signal cabling will be carried out in the six weeks before Christmas, and works will resume after a break to install the signals and resurface the road.

The scheme has been welcomed by Pembroke Dock town councillors.

Councillor Margaret Murton said: “This has been hanging fire for so long we ought to ask The Queen to open them.”

Speaking after last Thursday’s meeting of Pembroke Dock Town Council, Pembroke Dock mayor Pam George said: “At certain times of day that road is horrendous.

“We do need some sort of control up there, and now with the big estate being built, Martello Park, there are going to be a lot more houses there.

“Somewhere along the line we have got to have traffic calming.

“There will be delays, but you have got to have a mess before you have a clean.”
