Volunteers at Greenacres Rescue will be in the dog house tonight (Friday) when they sleep in kennels to raise money for the much needed charity.

Greenacres, in Talbenny, helps hundreds of animals needing new homes every year but as Christmas draws closer more and more are in need of rescue.

Manager Mickey Lawlor said: “Christmas is our busiest time of year the animals needing to come into our care increases dramatically and the homes being offered decrease and we also have a window over the Christmas and New Year period that we do not home animals. This all has a massive strain on our resources.”

This evening ten loyal volunteers will put on their pjs and onesies to spend a night in a kennel – raising funds and receiving an insight into what life is like for the dogs at the centre.

“Christmas should be the season of goodwill but sadly for many animals it’s a time of distress and abandonment,” added Mickey.

To add your sponsorship visit www.greenacresrescue.org.uk Alison Rees, who works at Thomas Carroll Brokers in Haverfordwest, is also asking people to help Greenacres this festive season by making up a Christmas shoebox for the rescue animals.

Simply fill a shoebox with tins of food, toys and treats and donate it to help the animals.

“By donating a box you will be providing Greenacres with much needed supplies, but doing it in such a way that it’s like giving a present. You might want to make a box for a particular dog or cat; one that’s caught your attention and that you’d like to see receiving your box. You might even want to personalise the box; adding a message that we will put up on the Greenacres facebook page.

“Fill your boxes with anything you think they would love or deserve. You could even include a ‘salt lick’ for the horses or some treats for the rabbits,” said Alison.

Boxes can be dropped off at any of the Greenacres charity shops, Thomas Carroll Office, 17 Victoria Place, Haverfordwest, Pets at Home, Haverfordwest or A Dean Carpets, Blue Street, Carmarthen.
