There is good news for Goodwick this week, with the announcement that funding has been found for new play equipment in the parrog's half empty park.

A large section of the wooden park was removed in October after rot was discovered in the structure.

The ensuing outcry led to public scrutiny of play equipment in both Fishguard and Goodwick and a Save Our Playgrounds group was subsequently set up.

At its inaugural meeting on at Fishguard's Ffwrm on Sunday, the assembled crowd learnt that Pembrokeshire County Council had ring fenced money from its playground maintenance budget for a substantial piece of play equipment for the Parrog.

Members of the community are now being asked to vote on their favourite design. Six options are on display in the Ocean Lab in Goodwick. People can also vote on the Save Our Playgrounds Facebook Page.

"We are so delighted with the Parrog news," said Save Our Playgrounds founder Dani O Connor. "It's great to have started on a positive note. "We can say 'we've got this so let's get going on other stuff that needs doing in the twin towns'."

Deputy mayor Richard Grosvenor added:

"I'm really pleased with the news about play equipment for the Parrog. It is a really positive start to the girls' campaign. I would like to congratulate Dani and Ruby for what they have done and the initiative they have shown, it's exactly what we need."

The Save Our Playgrounds group will meet again in January to discuss what needs to be done in other recreation spaces in Fishguard and Goodwick and how this can be achieved. For more information and to get involved visit the Facebook page.
