A mini tornado is said to have hit Haverfordwest and damaged some buildings this evening (Tuesday) as wild weather battered much of Pembrokeshire.

Photographs of Scotchwell View, Prendergast were sent to the Western Telegraph showing firefighters in attendance and damage to outbuildings.

The sender said a mini tornado had hit the area.

"It was the most horrendous noise I have ever heard, like a lion roaring in my head," he said.

"It was really scary."

Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service confirmed they had dealt with several properties with damaged roofs in Haverfordwest.

Two people are understood to have been taken to hospital suffering from shock.

Earlier on Tuesday, snow had caused problems in the north of the county and Pembrokeshire County Council warned of potential overnight disruption.

But the main problem on Tuesday seemed to be extreme wind and violent storms, with lightning bolts and heavy thunder reported.

Hailstones up to the size of golf balls have also been reported in several areas, with Stuart Dunlop‎ among the Western Telegraph readers who sent pictures.

Stuart saw the hail storm in Cuffern. "I thought these hailstones were going to break the windows", he said.
