The Port of Milford Haven has announced it is looking at organising a fish-themed event at Milford Fish Docks in June.

The decision follows the announcement that Pembrokeshire Fish Week has been cancelled.

The Port hopes the event will ensure businesses do not lose out on the substantial increase in footfall generated by the ever-growing number of visitors to Milford Fish Docks as part of Pembrokeshire Fish Week.

Alec Don, Chief Executive at the Port of Milford Haven, said: “I am sorry to hear that one of the key organisers of Pembrokeshire Fish Week is unwell.

"Many of us at the Port have worked very closely with the Fish Week team for a number of years and we wish her a speedy recovery.

“We are in discussions with Pembrokeshire County Council to see what we can do to create an alternative opportunity for the many businesses that do well out of the event."

Mr Don said there was clearly a "huge appetite" among locals and tourists for a seafood-themed event here, and that supporting events like this would help make Milford Docks "famous for fish" once more.

“The Port of Milford Haven will not be in a position to organise a festival on the same scale as Pembrokeshire Fish Week," he said.

"However, we are putting our heads together and once we have firmed up our plans we will make a further announcement.

"It is our vision to create a vibrant waterfront destination at Milford Dock and large scale events like this are key to the success of our £70 million Master Plan.”

A spokesperson for Pembrokeshire County Council said “The Council is currently evaluating what assistance it can provide to the proposed event in Milford Fish Docks”.
