Haverfordwest Townswomen’s Guild is re-launching as a luncheon club today (Friday) after holding its last ever meeting this month.

The decision to close the Guild after 55 years of fellowship and fundraising was made due to falling numbers and lack of new blood.

From its small beginnings, the group flourished and by the 1970s it boasted almost 80 members, who took part in national and federation Townswomen’s Guild festivals and competitions.

Over the last half century the Guild has raised thousands of pounds for both national and local charities – including the Paul Sartori Foundation, Cystic Fibrosis and Kidney Research – by organising concerts, fashion shows, plays and coffee evenings. A last donation from the Guild’s funds will be made to the Wales Air Ambulance.

Members have decided to form a Luncheon Club, which will meet every third Friday of the month at The Mariners Hotel in Haverfordwest. The first meeting will take place today (March 20).
